PIE
SUPPER RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH 15, 2008

What is
a Pie Supper? Years ago, when the
schools in the Forkland area were one-room schools, one of the big events
of the year at each school was the annual Pie Supper. The older girls and
women of the area would each make a delicious pie and specially decorate
it. At the pie supper, there would be an auction at which the boys and men
bid on the pies. The high bidder for each pie (usually a sweetheart or
husband) would then get to eat the pie with the pie's maker. It was a lot
of fun and a great fund raiser for the schools. The pie supper was
continued at the Forkland School before consolidation.
In 2004, we revived the
Pie Supper tradition at the Forkland Community Center and we added a
Spaghetti Dinner before the Pie Auction. It's a lot of fun, so we have had
a pie supper every year since then.
Admission is free. The
Spaghetti Dinner runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with delicious
spaghetti, either meat or Marinara (tomato) sauce and parmesan cheese,
tossed salad, breadsticks, and iced tea or lemonade.
The meal costs: Adults
$5.00, Ages 3- 10 $3.00, 2 & under free. Coffee and soft drinks are
available at 50 cents each.

After the dinner we
start the Pie Auction. There will be all kinds of delicious pies to bid
on: last year there were over 40 pies of all varieties, including stack
pies, a box of fried apple pies, and some amazingly fancily decorated
cakes, too. Everyone (men, too!) is
e
ncouraged to donate a pie. You can eat the pie you win for dessert or
take it home. And you don't have to eat it with the pie's maker, but it
might be a fun way to get to know them!

There also
will be a pie eating contest for adults and a (pizza) pie eating contest for
kids 12 and under.
