At last year's festival,
during Kentucky's Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial, we celebrated the
family connection in our community to Lucey Shipley Hanks Sparrow, grandmother
of Abraham Lincoln. Lucey, the mother of Abraham Lincoln's mother Nancy
Hanks, settled in Forkland with her second husband Henry Sparrow and raised
eight children. Several people living today in the Forkland Community are
descendants of Lucey and Henry. Our newly-expanded Forkland Community
Center Lincoln Museum exhibits many historical artifacts related to Lincoln, the
Sparrow family, and other aspects of Forkland history. The museum is open
by appointment during the winter months. Click
here for more information.
Our book, Roots
Trunk and Branches: Abraham Lincoln's Connections to the Forkland Community
through Lucey Shipley Hanks Sparrow, contains extensive historical
information on the Sparrows and debuted at the 2008 Forkland Heritage Festival and
Revue. The book is available for purchase at our Gift Shop or you may
order a copy by mail by clicking here.
You may view other books and CDs available for sale on our merchandise page.
